Located in beautiful Penang, Malaysia, our Penang English Adventure program offers quality English classroom learning connected to real-world application. We cater to three distinct proficiency levels to ensure your students are placed in the right class for their needs.

 

• A1 (Beginner): Perfect for students with little to no prior English knowledge. Students will learn foundational grammar, vocabulary, and practical phrases for everyday communication.

• A2 (Elementary): For those with a basic understanding of English. This level focuses on building confidence in speaking, listening, and expanding vocabulary on a wider range of topics.

​

• A2/B1 (Pre-Intermediate): Ideal for students ready to bridge the gap to intermediate proficiency. Lessons will focus on more complex sentence structures, engaging in improvised conversations, developing fluency, as well as public speaking and presentation skill development.

 

The Penang English Adventure in broken up into 2 parts:

 

Part 1: Learn English:    

 

Learn English before exploring Penang (3 hours per day)

 

The first 3 hours of the day is spent learning English at our language centre located in Tanjung Tokong, Penang.  There will be two 90-minutes English lessons offered 5 days a week Monday – Friday.   

 

Methodology

 

At Penang English Academy, we utilize the communicative approach to language acquisition.  This methodology is a student-centered approach that prioritizes language use in authentic, real-world situations. The core of our program is interactive practice, ensuring you are not just learning about English, but actively using it.

​

Your more advanced students (A2 / B1 level) will also have skills-based training in both public speaking and presenting.  These skills specific lessons have been specifically designed for students and will be taught by Dr. Robert Longo (USA).  These will be integrated into the 3 hours of English instruction each day.

Course content

 

Our English lessons are structured to maximize speaking and listening skills, with a clear focus on the practical application of the language:

 

• Speaking & Listening (75%): Most of the class time will be dedicated to conversational practice and improving comprehension in a variety of contexts.

• Reading (15%): Our reading activities are designed to enhance vocabulary and reinforce proper grammar use and formats.

• Writing (10%): Students will develop appropriate writing skills, focusing on clarity and practical communication.

 

This balanced and highly interactive approach ensures a dynamic learning experience, allowing your students to build confidence and fluency quickly.

 

Daily lessons are designed to prepare students for the excursions they will take along with foundational English instruction based on the class English level. 

 

Teachers

 

All myTESOL instructors are highly qualified, TESOL (or equivalent) certified, C1, C2 or native English speakers and bring extensive experience to the classroom. To ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.

Part 2: Penang Adventure:

 

Practice English as you explore Penang (4 hours per day)

 

After learning English, use the rest of the time to explore the island's famous street art, markets, historical sites, and stunning beaches all arranged and guided by Penang English Academy. Learn English in the classroom and then practice your skills immediately in real-world situations!

Penang Adventure Options

 

Penang English Academy currently offers 14 excursions to choose from.  We offer customization and flexibility to ensure you can select adventure experiences that your group is interested in.

 

1 George Town Street Art Hunt. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, find famous murals (like Children on a Bicycle), and see colonial-era shophouses.

 

2 Pinang Peranakan Mansion.  Discover the opulent lifestyle and unique 'Baba Nyonya' (Straits Chinese) heritage, architecture, and antiques.

​

3 Tropical Spice Garden. Explore the garden featuring over 500 species of exotic flora and learn about spices that are central to Malaysian and global cuisine.

​

4 Kek Lok Si Temple. Visit Malaysia’s largest Buddhist temple complex. See the Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas and the Kuan Yin statue.

 

5 Shopping at Gurney Drive. Visit Penang’s upscale shopping district.  Explore local foods and the new seaside park.

 

6 Cheong Fatt Tze (Blue Mansion). A more focused tour than the Peranakan Mansion, learning about the history of the wealthy merchant and the mansion's Feng Shui design.

7 Little India. Immerse yourselves in the sights, sounds, and smells of Penang's Indian community.

 

8 Clan Jetties. See the traditional Chinese waterfront settlements where people still live in houses on stilts over the water, connected by wooden planks.

 

9 Batik Painting Workshop. Learn about Batik, a traditional Malaysian/Indonesian wax-resist dyeing technique for cloth.

 

10 The Habitat and Penang Hill.  Ride the funicular (an experience in itself) and walk the nature trail and treetop walk at The Habitat for stunning views and rainforest immersion.

 

11 Batu Ferringhi.  Explore the beaches on Penang’s northern coast and enjoy local food in a tropical, relaxing environment.

 

12 Hiking in the Penang National Park.  An intermediate 2-hour trail hike taking you through stunning forests and concluding at the famous “Turtle Beach.”  Enjoy a boat ride back after your hike.

13 Fort Cornwallis and the Penang Esplanade tour.  Visit the historic Ft. Cornwallis and explore Penang’s updated waterfront area and beautiful, colonial government buildings.

 

14 City of Lights.  Visit Penang’s newest convention and shopping centre.  Located on the waterfront, this excursion offers a new shopping experience and as an alternative to Gurney drive.​​​
